FAQs
What do we discuss in the 15-minute consultation?
The 15-minute consultation is typically done by phone, but if you prefer, we can also meet on a secure video platform. This dedicated time is for you to share more about what you've been experiencing and what you hope to achieve through therapy. It's an opportunity for us to determine if we are a good fit to work together. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about me and my therapeutic approach, and how it might work for you.
Additionally, this consultation serves as a chance for us to get to know each other a little bit before we embark on our therapeutic journey. Building a strong rapport and sense of trust is essential for effective therapy, so this time allows us both to ensure that we feel comfortable moving forward together.
Please let me know your preferred mode of communication, whether it's phone or secure video platform, and we can schedule the consultation at a time that works for you. I'm here to support you and answer any questions you may have.
Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?
I offer flexible options for our sessions, including in-person sessions at my Oakville office, as well as video sessions and phone calls if you prefer. It's important to me that you're comfortable and can choose a mode of communication that suits your needs. During our in-person sessions, I always have coffee, tea, and water available for your enjoyment. Let me know which option works best for you, and we can proceed accordingly.
What can I expect in my first session with you?
If you decide to pursue individual therapy, our first session will provide an opportunity for you to share more about yourself and your circumstances. It’s normal to feel nervous but please don't worry, as I will guide you every step of the way. My aim is to gain a good understanding of who you are within the context of your life. During this session, we will explore various aspects of your current life and gather some details about your past history, including your family of origin. It's common for clients to leave the first session with new information or insightful reflections that can kick-start their journey toward positive change.
If you are joining me for a couples session, your first visit will be 1.5 hours long. All other sessions will be one hour.
What are your fees for therapy?
I understand that seeking professional support can be a valuable investment in your mental health and well-being. I strive to provide high-quality counselling services to help you navigate life's challenges and achieve a better state of mind. Here are my fees for therapy:
Individual Therapy and Trauma Therapy $160
Couples Counselling $250
What methods of payment do you accept?
Most clients typically pay for their sessions through e-transfer, but I also accept payment by cheque or cash if preferred.
Are your services covered by Extended Benefits/Insurance Plans?
Many extended benefits plans and insurance plans cover the services of a Registered Psychotherapist, but it's important to check the specific details of your individual plan as each insurance provider has different policies and requirements. It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to find out more.
Do you submit my claim to the insurance company?
No. At the end of our session, payment will be due to me, the therapist. Once you pay in full, I will issue an invoice showing this. It’s important to note that it is your responsibility to submit the invoice for reimbursement from your insurance company. After you make the payment, I will provide you with an invoice that includes all the necessary information for you to submit to your insurance provider. They will handle the reimbursement process based on the terms and conditions of your specific insurance plan. If you have any questions or need any assistance with the invoicing process, please let me know.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is specifically allocated for you, and it is crucial to inform me in the event that you are unable to keep it. I understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, but I kindly request that you provide at least 24 hours notice for any cancellations. By doing so, I can offer the available spot to another client who may benefit from it. If less than 24 hours notice is given, I reserve the right to bill you 50% of the session fee.
